KELAB UMNO KANADA mengalakan semua ahlinya dan umat Melayu Islam umumnya di Kanada untuk meluangkan masa menjadi ahli sukarela MUSLIM CANCER SUPPORT GROUP . Berikut ialah informasi terkini tentang kumpulan tersebut:
The Muslim Cancer Support Group is a community-based group of volunteers and cancer survivors whose mission is to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support to all who are touched by cancer.
Emotional Support:
We provide emotional support both in person & over the phone to patients & their families who have been newly diagosed with cancer.
Monthly Support Meetings:
We conduct monthly support meetings where newly diagnosed patients can meet cancer survivors for support. Our monthly support meetings are held on the last Friday of every month at the Islamic Foundation of Toronto. Private consultation with a Muslim oncologist & visiting guest speakers highlight our support meetings.
Annual Awareness Forum:
Our group holds an annual awareness forum to create awareness for our work & to teach the Muslim community about cancer related issues around prevention & self-assessment techniques.
Patient Support:
We provide one-to-one patient support on a patient need basis. Volunteers in our group provide support such as cooking a fresh meal, driving patients to hospital appointments, visiting patients in the hospital, & spiritual/emotional support.
Community Involvement:
To create awareness for our work, our group has joined hands with the Canadian Cancer Society. In the past we have raised thousands of dollars toward cancer research through the Relay for Life & through the Cricket for Cancer tournament. We intend to continue these efforts to reinforce that cancer touches everyone & that Muslims are an active part of the larger Toronto community.
